Member of the month – February

We have so many amazing and inspiring stories that walk through our doors at Main Event Fitness. It would be selfish of us not to share some of them with you guys, so we are going to start profiling some of our members for you!

Our February member is Jess:

MEF: Jess, you are a reasonably new addition to Main Event, but you have become one of our most dedicated members. How did you hear about us, and what classes are your favourite?

JESS: I heard about it through my sister who had started taking the Muay Thai classes. She said to come along, so I did. I had no idea what I had signed myself up to. I had never heard of Muay Thai before, however I thought if she can do it, so can I. The Muay Thai classes are my favourite, I’d be there day and night if I could.

MEF: You are a young mum, extremely dedicated, and manage to train twice a day some days. What keeps you motivated, and what are your future goals?

JESS: I have begun a much healthier lifestyle since becoming a member. Muay Thai appeals to me because I benefit from it physically but also mentally. Being a mum of a two year old can be stressful at times. Main Event is certainly my outlet, when I walk out after completing a workout I know I have left all of my stress on the bags and pads. I must say my main motivation is my little girl. I want to set a good example by showing her that you can achieve goals through hard work and dedication.

MEF: The Muay Thai classes at Main Event were a bit of a boys club before you came along, you have done a fantastic job recruiting a heap of girls into our classes. What advice would you give to other girls looking to give it a go?

JESS: Exactly that! Give it a go! It’s definitely the best thing I have ever done. I never thought I would do something like this. Muay Thai has always been known to be a male dominant sport. Initially I felt intimidated about giving it a crack, nonetheless I stepped out of my comfort zone with the feeling that I’ve got nothing to lose. I haven’t looked back since.

MEF: I know you have become quite obsessed with Muay Thai, and watch heaps of fights and study plenty of videos. What is it about Muay Thai that appeals to you?

JESS: All the guys and girls at Main Event are amazing, really encouraging and good to have a laugh with. I signed up with the intentions of getting fit, but now I’m addicted and I guess what keeps me motivated is that feeling of achievement and progression after every class. My future goals are to stay dedicated and train hard.

MEF: Will we ever get to see you in the ring? 😉

JESS: NEVER SAY NEVER!! 2016 could be the year for me

MEF: What advice do you have for other people looking to give Muay Thai a go?

JESS: I would say give it a crack you won’t be disappointed!! At Main Event it’s a community of people from all walks of life who all share the same interest and love for the sport and just fitness in general. I would recommend anyone, regardless of your fitness level or history, to take up Muay Thai at Main Event!
