Member of the month – March
We have so many amazing and inspiring stories that walk through our doors at Main Event Fitness. It would be selfish of us not to share some of them with you guys, so we have started profiling some of our members for you!
Our March member is Darcy:
Darcy, how long have you been with Main Event, and what got you started?
I have been training Muay Thai for a little over a year. It all started when my friends started
doing it. It was something I had always wanted to do, so it was a perfect opportunity to see
what it was all about when my friends invited me.
Have you had any previous experience in any combat sports, or any other sports?
I had no experience in combat sports apart from a little bit of boxing. Although I have always
been interested in exercising and going to the gym. I also played rugby for several years
What are your favourite classes, and what do you enjoy most about them?
Sparring would have to be my favourite class, even when I lack motivation beforehand I can
always get excited about sparring. Once you get to the gym and start working out it is the
greatest feeling. It’s always fun when you start using everything you have been learning
throughout the week in the ring.
How has Muay Thai changed your life?
It’s changed everything, I am a lot fitter and it’s actually fun every time you work out not a
chore. It has also been great making a heap of new mates while doing it too!
What are your future goals? Do you plan on competing or just staying fit and active?
It started off as just keeping fit and learning some self defence, but since than I have fell in love
with the sport. I plan on competing in an upcoming interclub, and seeing where it takes me
from there. My goal is to hopefully compete in an amateur fight in the not too distant future.
What advice would you give to someone looking to get involved in a combat sport?
Just give it a go, what’s the worst that can happen?
