Member of the month – January

We have so many amazing/inspiring stories walk through our doors at Main Event Fitness, it would seem selfish for us not to share some of them with you guys. So we are going to start profiling some of our members for you!

Our first one up for 2016 is Lorien:

MEF: Lorien, you are a Main Event O.G, and have been with us from the very beginning, where you used to sweat it out in our hot box of a gym in Breakwater. How did you find out about us and what has kept you around so long?

I had a dream, a premonition if you will. It was all about trusting the Millennium puzzle and believing in the heart of the cards and I knew that Main Event Fitness was the place for me. What dreams are made of. … *ahem* I mean, Your mum told me to come and see you for ages and I finally gave in., nah but really… I had been pretty unhappy with my fitness and wanted to lose some weight. I had tried your average gym before but it just wasn’t for me. I really enjoy the classes and atmosphere at Main Event. Everyone is always happy and no one judges one and other on their different fitness levels, so it’s easier to relax and feel comfortable.

MEF: So exactly how long have you been training at Main Event Fitness, and what are your favourite classes?

2 years this month I believe! I really enjoy the ladies boxing classes; I used to do the Muay Thai classes on the same nights as ladies boxing as well, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to recently. I’ve managed to pop into a couple of morning circuit classes in the past which were fun too.

MEF: You work pretty much exclusively with Del, what do you enjoy most about training with her, and what goals have you accomplished while training with her?

I like Del’s ( Johnny goes alright too! ) approach in her training and her classes can be quite brutal (in a good way of course). Depending on the numbers in the class it can be a wide range of boxing, circuit or even weights sometimes which keeps it interesting. Training with Del has helped me lose about 10kgs in the recent months which is always a plus. As well as helping me look my best before my wedding in 2014.

MEF: Has training helped you with any other aspects of your life?

Training has helped me strengthen my back and neck from previous underlying issues and just generally be a happier healthier me. Plus it gets me out of the house haha. Thanks to Johnny I can also dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge any incoming pool noodles.

MEF: Do you have any advice for people looking to get into shape?

Come down to Main Event Fitness where they can help you turn that Frankenstein you see in the mirror every morning into a Franken-fine! Haha Don’t use the “new year’s resolution” or the “I’ll start next month/week/year” excuse to postpone getting into shape. Best thing you can do for yourself is to take the first step, find what works for you, whether it be PT, classes, weights, boxing, circuit and go from there. And your diet….no crazy schemes or fad diets, just eating clean and healthy. If you do indulge yourself in a Roided Rosie, Main Event 2.0 or a Boss Deluxe, don’t stress, it just restores balance and reminds you to work extra hard next session!
